Argentine set for Gunners trial

Arsenal have handed a trial to young Argentine goalkeeper Damian Martinez. The 16-year-old is due to arrive in England later this week after The Gunners made contact with his club Independiente. He will spend a week at Arsenal's Colney training ground with a view to a permanent deal. Reports in South America are claiming a deal worth $2million (£1.3million) has already been agreed for the starlet. Martinez is first-choice keeper for the Argentine Under-17 squad and his performances for his country are understood to have impressed Arsenal's scouts. Now the player is set to travel to England he admits he can hardly believe that he is on his way to North London. "When I was told that I was going to have a trail at Arsenal I thought that someone was joking," he told Radio Rivadavia. "In fact, I thought that they were talking about Arsenal de Sarandi, the team called like that but that plays in Argentina."
