Confirmation Of Our 'Ridiculous Claims'!

NewcastleUtd-Mad claimed two weeks ago - the reason why Chris Hughton refused to name his skipper for 2010/11 was because he was waiting to sign Sol Campbell. We had doubters - and the e-mails flooded in - saying the article was "ridiculous" and "never gonna happen". Well can we tell you Newcastle have won the race for Sol Campbell's signature with the veteran defender poised to face the press on Wednesday. The former England centre-back was at St James' Park on Tuesday afternoon for a medical before securing a deal. Sunderland's interest in the former England international diminished last week when he allegedly turned them down and they went on to sign former Magpies defender Titus Bramble from Wigan. Campbell was married in Northumberland earlier this month and has only recently returned from his honeymoon. The 35-year-old, who won the last of his 73 England caps in 2007, will be Newcastle's third summer signing after the arrivals of Perch and Everton youngster Dan Gosling.
