The County chief, who was forced to settle for a 19th-placed finish this season, also revealed his intentions to enter the transfer market for a striker this summer.
He told the club's official website: "We have to [make changes this summer] because we've only got eight players left at the minute.
"It would be nice to get that [Weston's contract] tied up if it's going to happen but in the meantime I've got to start looking and have a Plan B if Myles decides not sign his contract.
"The club's made him a good offer and I think he'd be better to stay for another season or couple of seasons because if he keeps progressing the way he is there's always a chance somebody will come in and take him.
"We've still got Sean [Canham] there and little Ben [Fairclough] who can
play in the right or in the middle, and Delroy [Facey] as well but we'll be looking to bring a striker in."
