Cold winter: Pavlyuchenko says Spurs rejected January move to Real Madrid

Roman Pavlyuchenko has made the remarkable claim that Real Madrid tried to sign him in the winter transfer window but Spurs refused to release him. Former Tottenham manager Juande Ramos made an approach to White Hart Lane which was blocked by Harry Redknapp. Talking to a magazine in Moscow, Pavlyuchenko said: 'When my friends told me that Real approached Tottenham about me, I didn't believe it. I thought it was some kind of wild rumour.  'Later I discovered that my move to Spain was indeed a possibility. But Spurs bosses didn't allow for it.' The Russian said that the failed move to Madrid does not dim hisdesire to succeed at Tottenham, even though he is not a regular in thefirst team. 'I do not want to discuss whether I would be good at Real - or not,' said the 27-year-old player. 'At the moment I'm part of another big European club - Tottenham. Ido not know what's going to happen in the future. I have no intentionto move anywhere and do not want to. 'After being with Spurs for sometime I can say that if you haven'tplayed in Europe - and England in particular - you are a failure as afootballer. The Premier League is superb. 'If you win a corner all 35,000 fans clap you. If you make a goodpass, even in the middle of the park, they applaud too. When I won myfirst corner there was such a noise that I thought: did I score? 'I looked at the goal, but no, it was only a corner.'
