Dickov encouraged by progress

Oldham boss Paul Dickov is confident his side are heading in the right direction as he prepares for his debut season in management. In early June, Dickov was appointed at Boundary Park on a 12-month rolling deal and on a player-manager basis. The Scot has been encouraged by his players' efforts, particularly after they held Barclays Premier League side Wigan to a 1-1 draw on Tuesday. Dickov said: "If we do the same against teams in our own division then we will have half a chance. "It doesn't matter who you are playing against if we don't do things right we are a long way away. "But if we do them right, we are not far away."
