We're better than Oxford - Carruthers

Semi-final goal hero Chris Carruthers is confident that York City can do the business against his former club Oxford United in their play-off final at Wembley. Carruthers notched his third and most vital goal for the club to help set-up a magnificent aggregate 2-0 victory over highly-fancied Luton Town on Bank Holiday Monday. As a result, the Minstermen will be visiting Wembley Stadium for the second time in twelve months in just over a week's time, when they will be attempting to reclaim their prized Football League status after a six-year absence."We have a brilliant record against the top teams and don`t fear anybody at all," Carruthers told The Press."Everyone was saying Luton were the favourites for the play-offs but we set our stall out against them and it worked perfectly as we won both games 1-0."I remember the lads playing very well at Oxford but being really unlucky and there`s nothing to fear at all. In my eyes, we have a better team and a better squad of players."Carruthers was actually tripped by Luton skipper George Pilkington in the build up to the visitors crucial winner, and was then in the right place after home keeper Mark Tyler could only block Michael Rankine's powerful low free-kick.“I just toed it past their defender and I could have got in on goal but he got there late so I won the free kick," he added. "I then ran in and managed to nick a goal which is always nice."
