York City right-back Ben Purkiss has become the second player to quit the club in only a matter of days after signing a two-year deal with promoted Oxford United. The Sheffield-born defender made close on 150 senior appearances for the Minstermen after arriving from Gainsborough Trinity three years ago. He follows Luton Town midfielder Asa Hall and on loan Peterborough United winger Alfie Potter to the Kassam Stadium, and becomes manager Chris Wilder's third new signing in two days."We're delighted to have captured a player of Ben's calibre," Wilder told Oxford's official website."Having seen him play on a number of occasions last season we know that he is someone who possesses plenty of quality and will provide stiff competition to Damian Batt. He gets up and down the pitch, is athletic and good on the ball and will be another good addition to the squad."York also lost the services of winger Adam Smith to Blue Square Premier rivals Mansfield Town earlier this week. And the pair could soon be joined by former Stags defender Luke Graham, who is ideally looking for a move closer to his Northamptonshire home, and has promised manager Martin Foyle an early decision on the offer of a new deal.
