Farrell says York will be hard to beat
Published : 07 May 2010 16:32:14
Former York City striker Craig Farrell says the Minstermen will be very difficult to beat if they can manage to score first against Oxford United in their play-off final at Wembley. Farrell was a member of the Rushden & Diamonds side defeated earlier this week by the U's, where he also spent time on loan from York last season. He in turn moved on to Nene Park last summer in an exchange deal that sent Michael Rankine in the opposite direction. "Both teams have a couple of players who are perhaps better than the other side`s in certain positions and I think it will be tight." he told The Press. "But if York get an early goal, they have proven all season that they rarely surrender leads."The 27-year-old one time Leeds United trainee has netted twelve times in 48 appearances whilst helping Diamonds into the play-offs this season, although it ultimately ended in disappointment following their 3-1 aggregate defeat to Chris Wilder's side."I'll be watching the game although it will be a difficult experience for me as we believe we had a great chance to get there," Farrell added."I've got friends at both clubs and I'm glad that, if anybody other than us has to go up, it will be one of them. I'd probably say I want York to win, though, if I was pushed."I was there for three years and Dave McGurk and Michael Ingham are two of my best friends, so I hope the final goes well for them."
