Minstermen hopeful on Coulson

York striker Michael Coulson is hoping to overcome a foot injury in time to face Portsmouth.

Coulson has not featured in the last two matchday squads and could miss out again, while fellow forward Richard Cresswell sits out the second game of his three-match ban.

Centre-half George Taft has returned to parent club Leicester, so manager Nigel Worthington must decide whether to retain David McGurk and Dan Parslow at the heart of defence or recall skipper Chris Smith.

Winger Ryan Brobbel will play the final game of his loan spell from Middlesbrough, although York hope to extend his stay, and Ryan Bowman, Sander Puri and Ashley Chambers are all pushing for recalls.

Portsmouth have doubts over defenders Shaun Cooper and Joe Devera.

Cooper replaced the suspended Yassin Moutaouakil at right-back against Fleetwood last weekend but suffered a groin injury in the 1-0 defeat.

Moutaouakil is still banned so Danny East could step in if Cooper is ruled out, while centre-half Devera will be checked over after missing Saturday's game with a hamstring injury.

Striker John Marquis could make his debut following his recent loan switch from Millwall.
