McLaughlin major doubt for Minstermen

York midfielder Patrick McLaughlin faces a fight to be fit in time for the clash with npower League Two leaders Gillingham.

The 21-year-old former Newcastle trainee was stretchered off during the emphatic 4-1 victory over Bristol Rovers last weekend with a bruised lung and kidney after a heavy collision, and he is a big doubt for the visit of Martin Allen's men.

Boss Gary Mills could also be without Chris Doig (ankle) and Ashley Chambers (groin) who was so influential during Saturday's victory. If the duo fail to make it then the likes of Alex Rodman, Tom Allan, Jon Challinor and David McGurk could all come into contention.

Striker Michael Coulson (knee) is out for the rest of the season while Oli Johnson will not play again this year after going under the knife to repair a groin problem.

Gillingham boss Martin Allen has a fully-fit squad at his disposal for the trip to North Yorkshire.

Midfielder Chris Whelpdale and defender Connor Essam have both been declared fit while defender Tom Flanagan has returned to MK Dons due to his broken metatarsal.

Whelpdale has missed the last two games after suffering a groin injury while Essam has been struggling with a thigh injury.

But the Gills will have to watch their discipline as Matt Fish, Joe Martin, Lewis Montrose, Jack Payne, Charlie Allen and Charlie Lee are all just one booking away from an automatic one-match ban.

The npower League Two leaders have lost just one of their last eight fixtures and are currently five points ahead of second-placed Port Vale.
