Doig back for Minstermen

York defender Chris Doig is expected to return to contention for the visit of Burton.

Central defender Doig missed Saturday's goalless draw at Fleetwood after picking up a knock in the Boxing Day defeat at Chesterfield, but is hoping to be fit.

David McGurk stepped in for Doig, making his first appearance in 12 months, and played his full part as the Minstermen kept a clean sheet so manager Gary Mills faces a selection dilemma if Doig is passed fit.

Leading goalscorer Ashley Chambers remains sidelined with a stomach problem so Alex Rodman is hoping to continue up front, while Jamie Reed provides Mills with an extra option.

Defender Lanre Oyebanjo is pushing for a recall to the starting line-up after returning to the bench following a hamstring injury.

Oli Johnson (groin) and fellow striker Michael Coulson (knee) remain long-term absentees.

Nathan Stanton will miss Burton's first game of 2013 through suspension.

Stanton was sent off during the 2-0 home win over promotion rivals Southend on Saturday after receiving two yellow cards.

Albion boss Gary Rowett will hope that Marcus Holness can recover from the groin injury that has ruled him out of the last two matches to replace Stanton in the centre of defence.

If Holness is not ready to return, a defensive reshuffle could see either Andrew Corbett or Aaron Webster recalled to the starting line up.

Club captain John McGrath, fellow midfielders Cleveland Taylor and Chris Palmer and striker Matt Paterson are also options for Rowett should he wish to make further changes.

Winger Jimmy Phillips is nearing the end of a five month lay-off with a broken metatarsal and may also be included in the squad that travels to north Yorkshire.
