York City centre-back Greg Young has joined Blue Square Bet Premier newcomers Alfreton Town on a two-year contact after only ten months at Bootham Crescent. The 28-year-old Doncaster-born defender managed only a dozen appearances for the Minstermen last season after signing from Altrincham in the summer. But he eventually finished the campaign back on loan at his former club."I am delighted with the signing of Greg," Alfreton manager Nicky Law told the club's official website. "At 6'3'' he will give us plenty of power and he has loads of experience from the level we are now at to bring to the team," "He was a young kid at Grimsby when I was manager there. I gave him his chance and he did really well," he continued. "When we first came to Alfreton we brought him in on loan from Halifax Town but just as he got match fit, he was recalled."We have been interested in him for quite a while and fair play to him, while I know he didn't want to drop down a level to join us last season, he has chosen to come to us now when he could have had substantially more money with a club in the division we have just left." Meanwhile, York have brought in Kidderminster Harriers winger Matty Blair, 21, on a two-year deal. Blair is a current England 'C' international but out-of-contract at Kidderminster, where he netted eleven goals in 44 games last season.
