York City v Newport County

York City meet Newport County in the FA Trophy final on Saturday afternoon (kick-off 3pm) in the first of two successive weekends at Wembley.

The Minstermen are expected to be backed by around 8,500 travelling fans and start as firm favourites against opponents who only narrowly avoided relegation. Next weekend York take on Luton Town in the play-off final with the prize a return to the Football League.

On loan Middlesbrough defender Ben Gibson is set to return from suspension and could replace Chris Doig, who suffered a calf injury in the play-off semi-final win at Mansfield Town earlier this week. But the experienced Scot should be available for selection next week.

Meanwhile, Jon Challinor has recovered from a hamstring problem and continues at right-back. Fellow defender David McGurk and midfielders Scott Kerr and Eugen Bopp are definitely ruled out,

“We want to win this game just as much as we want to win the play-off final because winning breeds confidence," York manager Gary Mills told The Press.

"I want the players to feel what it’s like to win at Wembley so they can take that into the following weekend. “I could not have written the script better and it’s perfect timing to have the Trophy final first because it gives the players that experience of having a match day at Wembley.

"That will settle them all down hopefully for the play-off final,” he added.

Newport were still hoping to include on loan Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Karl Darlow despite an ongoing row over his registration. Glyn Thompson stands by to deputise if he is ruled out.

Elsewhere, Ryan Charles, Fraser Franks and Andy Sandell are all cup-tied.
