York City v Hull City

17 July 2010 11:31
York City will be without a number of players when beginning their pre-season programme against Hull City at Bootham Crescent today (kick-off 3pm). New signings Duane Courtney and Greg Young are both ruled out while central defensive sentinel David McGurk is also an absentee and regular left-back James Meredith is still recovering from knee surgery. "We only have three defenders fit to play but we will have to get on with it," manager Martin Foyle told The Press. "It`s just match practice really and we can`t take any risks, but I`m a bit disappointed to go into the first game without those four."Duane Courtney (right) has a bit of a sore knee and could be back for Tuesday, David McGurk has a minor calf problem which might mean he`s out for a bit longer while Greg Young stepped on a stone during his holiday and has some deep bruising that needed an injection," he continued. "James Meredith is back in training but there would be no sense in rushing him back."Andy McWilliams is therefore expected to be given a chance after failing to manage a single start for the Minstermen last season. The Tigers are set to include up to ten full internationals with the likes of Nicky Barmby (England), Norbert Solano (Peru), Anthony Gardner (England), Caleb Folan, Kevin Kilbane, Paul McShane (all Republic of Ireland), Peter Halmosi (Hungary), Kamil Zayette (Guinea), Seyi Olofinjana (Nigeria), Daniel Cousin (Gabon) and Kamel Ghilas (Algeria) set to be involved at some stage. But recent signing from Sheffield United James Harper is definitely confirmed as out and Welsh international goalkeeper Boaz Myhill and chief midfield inspiration Jimmy Bullard, whose proposed loan move to Celtic appears to have now collapsed,  aren't expected to feature.
