York City v Darlington

20 September 2011 15:33
York City were expected to rely on an unchanged starting line-up from that which trounced leaders Wrexham at the weekend for the visit of Darlington to Bootham Crescent. The only slight worry was striker Jamie Reed after scoring in successive games but his calf injury has cleared up.That means Jon Challinor [right] and Jamal Fyfield again keeping vastly experienced pair Daniel Parslow and Chris Smith amongst the substitutes. “As a manager, it’s good to have versatile players because, if you pick up injuries or suspensions, they can slot in and do a job but, for players, it’s important to establish themselves in one position," manager Gary Mills told The Press.“Jamal wants to play at centre-back and was excellent for us on Saturday. He pressed their strikers and did not give them any space to turn and put us under pressure.“Jon has played in midfield for most of his career but he started out at right-back and maybe it’s time for him to play there again. If you were to judge him on Saturday, then that was some performance for a full back.”Darlington have had a recent virus running through the camp but defender Graeme Lee returns from suspension and rejoins ex-York right-back Ben Purkiss.Liam Hatch and John Campbell were both ruled out at the weekend with illness while John McReady is still missing with a groin strain.Teenage striker Ryan Bowmn could be recalled after helping secure a late 1-1 draw with Hayes & Yeading United last time out.
