York City have signed striker Matthew Blinkhorn until the end of the season.

The 26-year old had been playing in Ireland for Sligo Rovers since 2009, scoring 22 goals in 72 games, but his contract had expired.Manager Gary Mills told BBC Radio York: "He's someone that I was aware of - somebody that is now available and a good player."He brings other players into the game and I'm absolutely delighted that he has signed."Blinkhorn began his career as a trainee at his home town club of Blackpool. He went on to spend two years at Morecambe before his move to Sligo.Mills added: "There is international clearance because he was last playing in Ireland, so we've got that to sort out, but fingers crossed there won't be a problem."He's played over here for Morecambe, Blackpool and had a little spell on trial at Leeds."But he's been playing over in Ireland for the last two and a half seasons."He's scored a lot of goals - a good target man."He's happy to be here, and I'm happy to have him here and he's another good addition in my opinion to my squad."Subject to clearance, Blinkhorn will be available for York City's game at Salisbury in the FA Trophy at the weekend.
