York City have agreed a deal with former Scotland Under-21 international centre-back Chris Doig.

The 30-year-old should bring plenty of experience to the club after already serving at Nottingham Forest, Northampton Town and Aldershot Town. He has also spent time playing abroad with spells at Australian side Central Coast Mariners and then Pelita Jaya in Indonesia.

"Chris is an experienced centre-half that I've known for a number of years," manager Gary Mills told York's official website. "With his experience he will be a great addition to the squad and I'm sure he will do very well."Doig was born in Dumfries and actually began his career as a schoolboy with Queen of the South before playing more than seventy games for Forest and over a hundred at Northampton, where he was appointed captain.

He was expected to link up with his new colleagues on Thursday and remain at Bootham Crescent until at least the end of the season.
