Stanley late show stuns York

York City's play-off hopes took a hit following a 1-1 draw with Accrington Stanley with the visitors netting a stoppage-time equaliser.

The Minstermen had started brightly and almost opened the scoring after seven minutes with goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli saving well from Michael Coulson's header.

York had gone into the game on the back of seven successive clean sheets but the visitors almost brought the run to an end with Luke Joyce and Tom Aldred going close.

Chances were few and far between in the half but the deadlock was almost broken on the cusp of half-time with Bettinelli denying John McCombe inside the six-yard box.

The hosts upped the pressure after the restart and were awarded a penalty after 60 minutes with Kayode Odejayi handling in the area. Coulson stepped up and calmly sent Bettinelli the wrong way to give York a crucial lead.

Following the setback, Accrington pushed on for an equaliser and were rewarded in injury time as substitute Shay McCartan headed home Lee Molyneux's corner.
