Wilcox reign begins with defeat

Russ Wilcox's reign as York boss got off to a disappointing start as Shrewsbury beat them 1-0 to secure their first away league win since February.

James Collins scored the only goal of the game in the 86th minute to end a run of 14 matches without a victory on the road after home attacker Ryan Jarvis had been sent off just past the hour.

York saw Diego De Girolamo and John McCombe both miss the target with weak early efforts but had Michael Ingham to thank after seven minutes when he raced out of his goal to smother Andy Mangan's shot after a defensive mix-up between Keith Lowe and Marvin McCoy.

Mangan also called Ingham into a near-post save after bursting through the right channel and then had the ball in the net in the 19th minute but was flagged offside after following up Bobby Grant's parried 20-yard drive.

At the other end, Shrews shot-stopper Jayson Leutwiler dealt with long-range Ryan Brunt and Lewis Montrose strikes prior to the break.

Michael Coulson called Leutwiler into early second-half action but Jarvis received his marching orders after 63 minutes for a badly-timed challenge on Nathaniel Knight-Percival 10 yards into the Shrewsbury half.

Ingham kept the Minstermen on level terms with a brilliant reflex save from Jermaine Grandison's powerful header.

But Collins won the match when he stuck out his boot to guide Jordan Clark's drive past Ingham.
