Robins hold Minstermen to draw

York and Cheltenham both missed out on the chance to close in on the top half of League Two following a lively 0-0 draw at Bootham Crescent.

City top scorer Wes Fletcher went close for the hosts early on but Steve Elliott was on hand to block his effort.

After a quiet opening, Cheltenham were inches away from taking the lead with their first effort on goal as Elliott headed narrowly wide from Matt Richards' free-kick.

Just before the break the visitors had Scott Brown to thank for keeping the scores level as he saved from Michael Coulson's free-kick before reacting to block John McCombe's effort from close range.

Cheltenham had Brown to thank once again after the break as he produced a one-handed save to stop Josh Carson's 25-yard free-kick from finding the net.

The Robins pushed on for the points in the closing stages with Jermaine McGlashan's drilled effort going narrowly wide after some good work from Byron Harrison.
