Swindon sign York midfielder

Swindon Town have signed 24-year-old York City midfield enforcer Jonathan Smith on a two-year deal for a £30,000 fee. Preston-born Smith scored five times in 44 appearances for York last season after joining them from Forest Green Rovers ten months ago.He started his career at Morecambe before going on to make more than a hundred appearances at Forest Green.Swindon finished bottom of League One last season and recently appointed former West Ham United striker Paolo Di Canio as manager.Di Canio has also brought in 24-year-old Barnet defender Joe Devera and was looking to soon add an Italian centre-back to his squad.York boss Gary Mills could now use the money to step up his chase for Luton Town striker Jason Walker, whom he previously attempted to sign from Barrow.
