Both sides will go into the game on a major high after impressive weekend home victories. Buoyant York defeated league leaders Oxford United 3-1 at Bootham Crescent while Rotherham were crushing their Yorkshire neighbours Bradford City 4-0.
The Millers are yet to concede a goal at their new home following an earlier comprehensive 3-0 win against Burton Albion. But their visitors are unbeaten on their travels over ninety minutes so far this season.
York boss Gary Mills is expected to rely on a similar side to that which overcame Oxford at the weekend, which should see new signings Clarke Carlise and Charlie Taylor continuing in defence.
There is though a major doubt over striker Ashley Chambers, who has a slight calf injury after netting against the U's. Should he miss out then top scorer from last season Matty Blair [lleft] will make his first start of the campaign.
Striker Jamie Reed is back training but won't be involved while Oli Johnson, Chris Doig, David McGurk and Scott Kerr are still out.
“We have started the season well and I want to keep up that momentum of winning football matches," Mills told The Press. “You hear people saying they are going to make changes who don’t and hear that players are injured when they are not. I don’t listen to that type of nonsense or get drawn in by mind games. “It makes no difference to me if they make changes or not. I will just focus on my team and what we are going to do. “It’s a tough draw but we are capable of getting a result.”
Rotherham boss Steve Evans is considering resting players but is boosted by the arrival of Welsh international defender Craig Morgan after being released by Preston North End.
Fellow stopper Kari Arnason won't be included as he is away on international duty with Iceland.
The game will be decided on penalties if it is level after 90 minutes and there will be no extra-time.
