Narrow defeat for York

A narrow defeat for York City against a youthful Bolton Wanderers side in their final pre-season friendly at Bootham Crescent. The only goal arrived on the hour as Michael O'Halloran moved dangerously inside the area under challenge from a couple of defenders, with the final touch appearing to come of York's Chris Smith. But it had taken a low save from Trotters keeper Rob Lainton to deny Ashley Chambers on eight minutes following an excellent through ball from skipper Scott Kerr (right).Adam Blakeman soon crashed an effort against the crossbar in reply before then drilling a further effort just wide. Patrick McLauglin had a goal ruled out at the opposite end, while home striker Jason Walker saw a shot saved and Chambers drove into the side-netting.York keeper Michael Ingham made an extended save to keep out Joe Riley after the break before Walker dragged another chance wide and then almost set up the waiting McLaughlin. And after the visitors had finally taken the lead both the returning David McGurk and substitute Jamie Reed threatened an equaliser before Ingham again saved well from Jack Sampson near the end.York City: Ingham, Oyebanjo, McGurk, Fyfield (Smith 53), Meredith, Kerr (Potts 56), Boucaud, McLaughlin (Henderson 72), Moké (Blair 65), Walker (Reed, 65), Chamberssubs (unused): Musslewhite, ParslowBolton Wanderers: Lainton, Riley, McQuade (Kellett 82), Eckersley, Connolly, Blakeman, Threlkeld (Irwin 58), Vela, Sampson, O'Halloran, Odabeyi (Odelusi 58) subs (unused): Lynch, Fazlic, McGregor, Proudfoot, DennisGoals: O'Halloran (60)Ref: B.
