Morecambe v York City

Manager Gary Mills could make changes for York City's opening away league game against Morecambe at the Globe Arena this evening.

The Minstermen crashed to a 3-1 home defeat to Wycombe Wanderers on their Football League return and the City chief is hoping for much better this time around.

He is already without the services of David McGurk, Scott Kerr, Jamie Reed and Oli Johnson because of injuries but could decide on recalls for the likes of Matty Blair, Lanre Oyebanjo and Jon Challinor.

Summer signing Danny Blanchett is similarly pressing for inclusion after being left on the bench at the weekend while fellow newcomer Jon McReady also waits for a first start.

“It was the first game of the season and funny things happen," Mills told The Press.

“We did not get the rub of the green and, without taking anything away from their finishes, that’s cost us points.  “I won’t be getting carried away because we lost and, while Morecambe have had a perfect start with a 3-0 win, it’s only one game. “It always takes a few games to get a true reflection of a team’s capabilities," he continued.

"It doesn’t make us a poor side because we lost our first match and the fact that they won does not make them a great side either. It’s all about consistency and picking up enough points during the season to be successful.”

Morecambe bosss Jim Bentley will check out the fitness of ex-York striker Richard Brodie, who was substituted during their opening day win at Exeter City following a recent calf problem.
