Minstermen recover after early scare

York City's latest pre-season run-out ended in a rather tame 1-1 draw at Northern League Billingham Synthonia. And the visitors were forced to come from behind after falling into arrears on 26 minutes, when Danny Earl drilled impressively into the top corner. The Minstermen should really have been back level moments later after Scott Kerr and Jason Walker combined for Matty Blair [far right] to slice wide of an open goal. However, Blair was to make amends on the stroke of half-time from a well-worked set-piece in which Patrick McLaughlin's free-kick was headed back at the far post by David McGurk. Now back on level terms, York always appeared the more likely to win it after the break, and Walker and Daniel Parslow both had chances before the usually reliable Walker headed wide from substitute Lanre Oyebanjo's inviting cross.  York City: Ingham (Musselwhite), Parslow (Oyebanjo), McGurk, Smith, Fyfield, Kerr, Potts (Boucaud), McLaughlin (Meredith), Blair (Moké), Walker, Henderson (Chambers)
