Minstermen linked with Smith

York City are understood to be interested in taking Forest Green Rovers midfielder Jonathan Smith to Bootham Crescent. Smith made 46 appearances for Forest Green last season and scored eight goals after joining the club three years ago. In total the 23-year-old has made 132 appearances for the club after orginally progressing through the youth system at Morecambe before having loan spells at Fleetwood Town and Bamber Bridge.  However, he is now believed to be out of contract at the New Lawn, although the Nailsworth part-timers would be entitled to compensation should he decide to move on.  Only last week Forest Green escaped relegation after Salisbury City were unsuccessful in having their appeal against a two division demotion overturned.  The Minstermen have so far recruited defenders Duane Courtney (Kidderminster Harriers) and Greg Young (Altrincham) since the end of last season.
