York City boss Gary Mills expects to reinvest the £30,000 received for the transfer of midfielder Jonathan Smith to Swindon Town back into his promotion-chasing side. The tenacious 24-year-old signed a two-year deal with the Robins yesterday in a move that Mills believes largely suits all parties concerned.“I’m disappointed to lose him because he was part of my plans for next season but they offered money for him and I then had to make a decision," Mills told The Press. “It’s a chance for Jonathan to play in the League and I felt it was also a decent deal for us. "It’s one that might enable me to move forward on a couple of my transfer targets and I’m waiting for an answer from one player at the moment.” Mills already has a number of prospective new arrivals lined up and plans more talks over the coming days.He could also resume his interest in an unnamed player from relegated Rushden & Diamonds, who were thrown out of the Conference last week for financial reasons. “Before that even happened, there was a player I was interested in there, so I wouldn’t say no to making further inquiries now,” Mills added. The Minstermen have so far signed three players over the summer in former loanee Ashley Chambers (Leicester City), Liam Henderson (Watford) and Matty Blair (Kidderminster Harriers). But with a squad only comprising thirteen at present there are sure to be several more new arrivals on the horizon.
