York City centre back David McGurk is close to agreeing a new deal to keep him at Bootham Crescent. The 28-year-old asked for a transfer to Luton earlier in the season but manager Gary Mills confirmed he is in talks with him about a new contract. [LNB]Mills told BBC Radio York: "I think we're very close to agreeing a new contract with David which is great. [LNB]"He can see what we've done at this football club in the last few months and he wants to be part of it." [LNB]Mills added: "I rate him as a centre half and we've been talking over the last few weeks. We're very close to agreeing something. I think that's good news."[LNB] Hopefully next week we can get him to put pen to paper David McGurk "I came in October and within two weeks David's talking to me about leaving and wanting to go to Luton, not giving me a chance with him to show what I'm capable of as a manager and what I want to do at this football club. [LNB]"I can't understand personally why anyone wants to leave this club because it's a great club. [LNB]"But I don't want to lose the likes of David McGurk as a centre half and we're very close to sorting something. Hopefully next week we can get him to put pen to paper."
