Returning midfielders Neil Barrett and Chris Carruthers were both on target as York City won a hastily arranged pre-season game 3-1 at Market Drayton on Tuesday evening. Barrett actually opened the scoring inside the first minute after combining well with recent signing Peter Till before Carruthers added another nine minutes later from a glorious overhead kick following an Andy McWilliams cross. York then proceeded to miss chances as Carruthers sent a deflected effort wide and Djoumin Sangare had a header turned onto a post. David McDermott and Michael Rankine also went close before a mistake from Danny Parslow allowed Marc Grice to cut their lead early in the second-half.Rankine on four separate occasions, Barrett (right) and McWilliams threatened more for the visitors and Michael Gash had a goal disallowed for offside before Jonathan Smith's shot was cleared off the line and fellow substitute Jamie Hopcutt drilled wide. However, they were at last rewarded for their dominance when Rankine finally found the target from the penalty spot after being brought down inside the area two minutes into added time.York City: Knight, Sangare (Andrew 41), Parslow, McGurk, McWilliams, Till (Smith 62), Barrett (Trialist 62), McDermott (Hopcutt 68), Carruthers (Richardson 62), Purcell (Gash 46), RankineGoals: Barrett (1), Carruthers (10), Rankine (pen 90)Ref: R.
