York City midfielder Alex Lawless has signed on loan for Luton Town with a view to a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee in January. The former Welsh Under-21 international is out of contract at Bootham Crescent at the end of the current season and could therefore have left the club for nothing. Lawless arrived at York in July of last year and has since made 58 appearances during which he has scored four times."I am very disappointed to see a player of Alex's calibre leave the club as I feel that he has much to offer and has been very popular with the supporters," manager Gary Mills told York's  official website.                                 Alex Lawless (right) in action against Luton"However, we need players who want to play for York City, are focused on their jobs and happy at the club," he added. "If this is not the case then they will only become restless and in turn this will affect their perfomance. "On the positive side I have several players in mind that I would like to sign for the club and the fee received for Alex will give us the funds to attract the right players to the club."Also Chris Carruthers and Levi Mackin are now close to match fitness which will bolster our midfield options."
