York City take on Kidderminster Harriers in the FA Cup fourth qualifying round at Aggborough Stadium this weekend. Latest signing Chris Smith is expected to be handed a debut in defence, while there is also a place in the travelling party for ex-Kidderminster winger David McDermott after he was invited back to the club by new manager Gary Mills earlier this week. Midfielder Chris Carruthers has since returned to training but is not yet ready for a recall, while Levi Mackin is also getting closer to regaining fitness. Striker George Purcell remains an absentee. York boss Mills has already started to trim his squad with youngsters David Dowson, Dean Lisles and Jamie Hopcutt all being released. "I think this game has come at a good time. You play a hell of a lot of league games early on in our division and everybody looks forward to the Cup and the possibility of a good run," he told The Press. "It`s a chance for everybody to make a name for themselves, as people here know having reached the third round last season.                                             Back in York colours - Chris Smith"The competition is also important financially because the prize money is decent and nearly everyone is struggling financially in today`s game."Kidderminster have selection issues of their own with midfielders Keith Briggs and Jack Byrne both rated as doubtful and Aaron Griffiths suspended. On loan striker Marc Williams also misses out after being refused permission to play by parent club Wrexham, but namesake Mike Williams is hopeful of returning at left-back following a recent hip problem. However, one man definitely not involved is former player-coach John Finnigan who has now left the club.
