Ilkeston Town 2 York City 1

10 August 2010 18:14
York City's final pre-season fixture ended in a disappointing 2-1 defeat at Blue Square North outfit Ilkeston Town on Monday evening. Manager Martin Foyle rested ten senior players and soon found his side chasing the game as the progressive hosts swept into a two-goal lead by the half-time interval. Matt Richards burst through the challenge of Duane Courtney on 34 minutes and finished confidently past the unprotected David Knight before Gary Ricketts swiftly volleyed a second into the bottom corner. But the damage could actually have been much greater for the visitors after the busy David Graham and Ricketts both struck the woodwork. The Minstermen improved following the interval and David McDermott (right) drove them back into the contest on the hour.George Purcell and Michael Rankine were then both wide as the visitors continued to press before Neil Barrett had a header cleared off the line in the final minute.Ilkeston Town: Lowson, Clarke, Picton, Giddins, Green, Richards, Dempsey, Wilson, Morgan Smith, Graham, RickettsYork City: Knight, Courtney, McWilliams, Richardson, Sangare (Lisles 63), Young (Andrew 70), Till, Barrett, Rankine, Purcell, McDermottsubs (unused): K.
