Histon 1-1 York City

02 February 2010 10:07
Record-breaking York City's winning league run came to an end as they were deservedly held to a draw at Histon.Ben Purkiss looked to have set Martin Foyle's men on their way when he belted his side in front from 25 yards. [LNB]But York were denied a 10th league win when Luke Graham was adjudged to have fouled Nathaniel Knight-Percival, who appeared to be backing in. [LNB]And, from Gareth Gwillim's free-kick, Bradley Hudson-Odoi fired into the top right corner from close range. [LNB]York were crucially without 24-goal top scorer Richard Brodie, who is serving a two-game ban. [LNB]That had an effect as Foyle's side missed the chance to close the gap on leading pair Stevenage and Oxford. [LNB]And it could have been worse for them, Histon wasting the best chance of snatching a winner when Hudson-Odoi's strike was saved by York keeper Michael Ingham. [LNB]But the Stutes' point was still enough to lift them nine points clear of the drop zone. [LNB][LNB]Martin Foyle told BBC Radio York:[LNB] [LNB][LNB] "I personally didn't think it was a free kick but you've still got to defend it. [LNB]"And we simply gave too many free kicks away. [LNB]"The referee was penalising my centre halves every time they jumped. [LNB]"We've had a fantastic run of wins and the lads are disappointed at it coming to an end, but we're still unbeaten over a long period in the league. [LNB]"And I'm actually delighted with the point. [LNB]"This is not an easy place to come. It was a hard-fought game. Histon have worked very hard and put us under pressure for long periods."
