Foyle calls for League rule

York City boss Martin Foyle says that Blue Square Premier fixtures should always take priority over those in the FA Trophy. The Minstermen are facing a severe potential backlog after their weekend Trophy clash at Barrow was postponed. The tie has since been rearranged for tomorrow evening, which has in turn forced the cancellation of York's scheduled league visit to promotion rivals Mansfield Town.“I can see massive problems ahead and it seems people don’t look two weeks down the line. You’re getting to the situation now where a couple of players could pick up basic injuries and miss three or four games," Foyle told The Press .“A lot of things could go right or wrong for clubs in a short space of time now. That’s not fair on Conference players and clubs – a lot of whom are part-time. The game seems to protect the big boys who have 40-odd players but, at our level where the squads are smaller, the overload is massive. It is hampering success.“Something will go wrong for either us, Oxford, Stevenage or Luton because of the fixture situation and it probably cost Stevenage in the play-offs last season."He continued: “I don’t agree that the Trophy should take preference over scheduled league programmes. They should be set in stone.“We wouldn’t have liked it if we had lost last week’s match against Luton in half-term week.“Rearranging it might have meant we got 1,500 fewer fans and it’s the same for Mansfield. They will have been banking on a big crowd tomorrow as it’s a local game and an important match.”
