Darlington 0-2 York: Report

Minstermen march on York came out on top in the battle of the two Blue Square Bet Premier rivals with a 2-0 victory over Darlington to reach the FA Cup third round. Ashley Chambers stroked home in stoppage-time for the Minstermen after Djoumin Sangare had opened the scoring in the first half. It was Sangare who had the first effort of the match as he unleashed a 25-yard effort which skidded just wide of Sam Russell's goal. At the other end, a slip by York captain Chris Smith allowed in Chris Senior, but Smith recovered to steer the Quakers forward away from goal The closest Darlington came to goal came via a first-half free-kick which Aaron Brown curled narrowly past the post. A minute before the break Sangare put York ahead with a goal owed much to slack Darlington defending as they were unable to deal with a simple long ball. York keeper Michael Ingham punted the ball to Michael Rankine, whose flick-on saw Sangare steer the ball past Russell from eight yards. With a goal to defend after the break, York ensured keeper Ingham was not seriously tested by a disappointing Darlington side lacking a cutting edge. The closest Quakers came to an equaliser was five minutes from time when a fierce Michael Brough shot was headed over by James Meredith. And the game's outcome was confirmed in injury-time when Chambers tapped into the net after Rankine cross after dispossessing Brown.
