Skiverton to tinker with Glovers
Published : 27 Dec 2009 16:54:13
Skiverton made one enforced change to his starting line up for the 4-0 home win over Wycombe on Boxing Day, following the 1-1 draw at Hartlepool. Central midfielder Keiran Murtagh celebrated his recall with Yeovil's opener after replacing Shaun MacDonald, whose has returned to parent club Swansea City at the end of his Glovers' loan spell. Skiverton admitted his substitutions in the win over Wycombe "enhanced the team" and Jon Obika will be hoping his performance will have caught the manager's eye. On-loan Tottenham forward Obika set up Yeovil's second goal and scored himself within seven minutes of his 66th-minute introduction in place striker Dean Bowditch. Obika is likely to start at the County Ground as Skiverton's men look to continue their ascent up the table. Meanwhile, Skiverton insisted his side fully deserved their thumping 4-0 victory over the Chairboys on Saturday Murtagh opened the scoring in the first half and the Glovers ran riot in the final quarter of the game with goals from JP Kalala, Obika and Sam Williams. Skiverton hailed Murtagh but also reserved special praise for goalkeeper Alex McCarthy, who went home with the man-of-the-match award. "Kieran was brilliant and the other player I would pick out was Alex McCarthy," said Skiverton. "We created eight or nine clear scoring chances, and that's no disrespect to Wycombe, but we were well worth these points. "I brought on three substitutes in Andy Welsh, Jon Obika and Scott Murray who all enhanced the team and left with me with a few selection problems before we go to Swindon. "We were having our worst spell at the start of the second half before we got those goals, but they were certainly great goals and well worth waiting for."
