Cambridge stand firm to claim win at Yeovil

Cambridge held off a spirited Yeovil fightback to win 3-2 in a pulsating match at Huish Park.

The Us raced into a three goal lead inside 35 minutes, but goals either side of half-time for Yeovil ensured Cambridge were made to work hard for just their second away win of the season.

Rory Gaffney, enjoying his first Us start, took advantage of a shocking header from Yeovil defender Alex Lacey to fire Cambridge ahead in the fourth minute, before the striker doubled the lead with a deflected effort after 25 minutes.

Luke Berry added a third with a well-struck volley from just inside the box nine minutes later, before Ryan Bird pulled one back for Yeovil as half-time approached for his sixth goal of the season.

Josh Sheehan set up a grandstand finish with a stinging drive at the back post in the 79th minute to make it 3-2, but Yeovil were unable to fashion an equaliser in the closing minutes as they fell to their third defeat in a week to remain in the relegation zone.
