Yeovil 2-1 Notts County: Match Report

13 April 2011 00:19
Allen bow ends in defeat Martin Allen took charge of Notts County for the first time and saw his relegation-threatened side put up a terrific fight before going down 2-1 to Yeovil. Lee Hughes had the ball in the net inside a minute for County when he charged down a clearance from goalkeeper Stephen Henderson but the referee decided the striker had used his hand and the goal was disallowed. It was Yeovil who took the lead after 32 minutes when Dean Bowditch slid home a cross from Shaun MacDonald after a poor clearance, but County came out fighting in the second half and were on level terms after 50 minutes with a brilliant goal from John Spicer. A free-kick was headed on by Ben Burgess and Spicer volleyed brilliantly from 25 yards. Six minutes later Yeovil were ahead again with Bowditch scoring his 13th goal of the season after great work in the left by Andy Welsh. The Yeovil victory took them to 50 points and one more win from their last five games should be enough to keep them up, while County have no such luxury and are stuck in the bottom four.
