Yeovil fail to stop Exeter's play-off push

Exeter notched their third straight win and boosted their play-off hopes as they ran out deserved 2-0 winners at Yeovil.

Ollie Watkins and Jake Taylor netted either side of half-time to extend the Grecians' unbeaten run to nine games and climb up to ninth in the table.

Yeovil's defeat was their first at Huish Park since Darren Way took over as manager but they remain 13 points clear of safety and in little danger of relegation.

Exeter began the game the brighter of the two sides and moved into a deserved lead after 16 minutes when Watkins beat Artur Krysiak with a fine drive from the edge of the area.

Taylor almost doubled the lead when his long-range effort hit the post, before Jayden Stockley volleyed just over from six yards out.

Yeovil showed glimpses of the quality that has seen them climb out of relegation trouble under Way, with shots by Francois Zoko and Jack Compton the closest they went to troubling Bobby Olejnik.

Exeter continued to look the more dangerous side though and the win was sealed in the 69th minute when Taylor finished at the second time of asking after Krysiak spilled his initial effort.
