U's hand Glovers another home loss

Craig Eastmond's second-half strike edged Colchester closer towards safety as they leapfrogged opponents Yeovil with a 1-0 win at Huish Park.

After a subdued start, the first real opening fell to the visitors after 18 minutes as Freddie Sears' run and cross was blocked in the six yard box by Ben Nugent. Gavin Massey's effort two minutes later was too easy for Glovers goalkeeper Jed Steer.

Yeovil's best chance to bag an opener fell to Tuesday's FA Cup hero Simon Gillett whose chest and strike stung the palms of Sam Walker.

Half-chances for the Glovers' Sam Foley and the U's Sears dotted a largely uneventful second half, before Yeovil's Blackburn loanee Tom Eaves' powerful header called Walker into a smart save at point-blank range.

Colchester burst into life in the 72nd minute when George Moncur sailed down the left wing before rolling the ball back to the advancing Eastmond who picked his spot clinically.

Home boss Gary Johnson pushed three up front and another Eaves header should have levelled things for Yeovil after 86 minutes, but Walker was again equal to it to keep a clean sheet and take all three points back to Essex.
