Stam, 29, has been handed the armband by manager Terry Skiverton following his summer transfer from Oldham. And Stam told the Western Morning News: "I feel as though I am ready for it because I am older now and one of the more experienced players at the club. "I think it's good to have a centre-back as captain because you can see most of the pitch and assess what is happening. It's something I'm happy with."
