Skiverton: Slow start cost us

The U's followed up their opening-day thrashing of Norwich to register a second successive league win, with David Fox and Ashley Vincent putting the hosts 2-0 up inside the opening 18 minutes before Ryan Mason's late consolation. Skiverton said: "I was angry with the first-half performance but pleased with the second half. It was quite similar to the way we played against Norwich (in the Carling Cup). "We tried to make it hard for them and to stay in the game to the 60-minute mark because then I knew our fitness would make it's mark. "We played into their hands a little but I was really pleased with the second-half performance. We could have folded but we didn't and I felt we weren't that far off. "We responded well and showed good character. But if we keep starting like that, we could be dead and buried in games."
