Expectations shock Lambert

07 Mar 2008 - 08:29:15

Wycombe Wanderers boss Paul Lambert has spoken out about the pressure of expectation among some sections of the Adams Park club.

Lambert took charge of the Chairboys in the summer of 2006 and failed to take them up to League One last season, although Wycombe did reach the Carling Cup semi-finals, where they lost to Chelsea.

He told the Bucks Free Press: "Our kitman, Jim Gardner, went in for an operation last year and the surgeon was a Wycombe fan. They got chatting about football.

"The surgeon let Jim know he wouldn't be renewing his season ticket as he felt the team didn't play well enough against Chelsea.

"I will never forget that. It just made me laugh. I will always keep that story in my head and it is one memory I will take away from here.

"I would love to go up to show people like that. I just don't know where they get their expectations from."
