    Wycombe seal Sutton coup

    28 Jun 2007 - 11:21:31

Wycombe Wanderers have agreed a deal to sign St Mirren striker John Sutton, beating off interest from a number of other clubs.

The 23-year-old turned down the offer of a new deal from the Saints and has opted to return to England to link up with the Chairboys.

Wanderers boss Paul Lambert told the club's official website: "This is fantastic news.

"John could have joined clubs much higher up the Football League, but he's opted to come to us. He had an excellent record in the SPL and I've always liked him.

"He'll get goals - I've no doubt about that - but he can also bring other players into the game. He's the perfect target man."

Sutton started his career as a trainee with Spurs, before joining Raith Rovers and following a short spell with Millwall he returned to Scotland to enjoy stints with Dundee and St Mirren.

In two seasons with Saints he netted 30 goals in 75 appearances in all competitions.
