    Torres eyes Wanderers start

    20 Jun 2008 - 07:36:28

Wycombe Wanderers midfielder Sergio Torres is hopeful of being fit for the start of the new season following an operation on an injured ankle.

The 26-year-old Argentinian will resume training in mid-July after going under the knife and believes he could be fit to play some part in the Carling Cup first round tie with Birmingham City on August 11.

"I've just seen the physio and he says he's happy, so hopefully after I've seen the doctor in the middle of July I'll be able to start training again," Torres told the club's official website.

"My ankle's a bit swollen and sore still, which is normal, but there's still a few weeks until the season so I need to make sure my ankle is fine and hopefully get into the team.

"Every player looks forward to playing in big games and Birmingham are a really good team who were unlucky to go down last year.

"I'm not sure if I'll be fit to play in it but I hope to get on the pitch for some of it."
