Gozie Ugwu set for Wycombe debut against Plymouth

New signing Gozie Ugwu will go straight into Wycombe's squad for their League Two clash against Plymouth on Saturday.

Winger Jason Banton and forward Paul Hayes are also in line to face their former club.

Anthony Stewart, sidelined until Christmas with a knee injury, is the only absentee for the hosts.

"Gozie is an exciting striker who I've had my eye on for some time and I'm delighted to have him on board," manager Gareth Ainsworth said of the striker, who has had spells at Shrewsbury Town, Dunfermline, Yeovil Town as well as Plymouth.

Plymouth have been given positive news over three long-term absentees, though only one is in contention for Saturday's game.

Manager Derek Adams, whose side's four-match winning streak in all competitions was ended last week in defeat to Stevenage, confirmed striker Reuben Reid had returned to training with the first team after three games out with a hamstring injury.

The Pilgrims are hoping midfielder Josh Simpson (groin) will be back in contention in a week's time, while Deane Smalley, yet to feature under Adams, is training with the Under-18s in his recovery from a cruciate ligament injury.

Adams said: "We have to care for somebody that's injured. He's had a nasty injury, a cruciate ligament, so we have to look at him. But he has to get fit, so that's why he's gone with the Under-18s - to get his confidence, really, and a touch of the ball again, to gain that experience of getting back into action."
