Chairboys keep on rolling
Wycombe continued their impressive start in Sky Bet League Two as they made it two wins on the bounce with a 3-1 success over Carlisle.
Second-half goals from Aaron Pierre, Paul Hayes and Peter Murphy helped down the Cumbrians, who finished with 10 men after Alex Marrow accrued two cautions.
Wycombe started like an express train and had the better of the chances in a goalless first half but neither goalkeeper was properly tested. Brad Potts came closest for the visitors after 19 minutes but Carlisle's former youth-team skipper saw his effort deflected just wide.
The Chairboys improved as the half went on and Paris Cowan-Hall should have put them ahead after 38 minutes. The pacey winger found himself clean through when he controlled a long ball beautifully but his powerful shot went just over.
Wycombe started the second half in the same fashion and took a deserved lead in the 55th minute from Pierre's powerful header. The former Brentford defender was picked out superbly by Sam Wood and made no mistake from six yards out.
The Cumbrians hit straight back instantly, however, after good work from substitute Pat Brough found Potts free, and the 20-year-old volleyed home from close range.
Wycombe continued to press and took the lead again in the 77th minute when the impressive Hayes scored from the spot after Sean O'Hanlon had handled in the area.
The home side then put the game out of reach after midfielder Murphy found acres of space in the box and side-footed home.
The visitors' afternoon was made even worse when Marrow was sent off for a second bookable offence with eight minutes to go.
