Hayes late show wins it for Wycombe

Paul Hayes' dramatic penalty in the 12th minute of time added on ensured Wycombe remain in prime position for the third League Two automatic promotion spot with a 2-1 win over Exeter at Adams Park.

The 31-year-old kept his cool to convert with the final kick of the game after Aaron Pierre was adjudged to have been pushed in the area by Christian Ribeiro.

Sam Saunders had given the hosts an early lead before Liam Sercombe headed in a 76th-minute equaliser for the Grecians.

Hayes wasted an early chance for the home side, skewing wide at the far post after meeting Nico Yennaris' right-wing cross in the opening minute.

But Wycombe were in front six minutes later when a neat one-two exchange between Saunders and Hayes resulted in the former slotting home from 15 yards.

Exeter pushed on in the second half and Sercombe converted from close-range after David Wheeler flicked on the impressive Lee Holmes' delivery from the left flank.

Ingram blocked Ribeiro's header during a frantic injury time before Hayes' late drama clinched a vital three points for his side.
