Luke O'Nien leaves it late as Wycombe snatch win over Bristol Rovers

Luke O'Nien headed a late winner as Wycombe climbed into the League Two play-off places with a 1-0 victory over Bristol Rovers.

Wycombe looked to be in for a frustrating afternoon as they created more chances in the game but failed to take any.

That was until the 85th minute when left-back Joe Jacobson, playing against his former club, sent a free-kick into the box for O'Nien to nod into the bottom left-hand corner.

In the opening 20 minutes, Marcus Bean, Paul Hayes and Stephen McGinn all failed to find the target with chances for the Chairboys.

Home fans had to wait 30 minutes before veteran goalkeeper Steve Mildenhall was tested as he pushed wide a Jacobson free-kick.

Rovers were limited to a couple of half-chances in the first half but after the interval they looked more dangerous with Ryan Allsop having to stop efforts from Lee Mansell and Ollie Clarke.

But Wanderers weathered the storm and finally got rewarded five minutes from time through O'Nien's header.
