Newport claim first win under John Sheridan

Newport earned only their second win of the season and a first under new manager John Sheridan with a 2-0 victory at Wycombe.

The visitors had lost two and drawn one of their previous three matches since Sheridan took over from Terry Butcher on October 2, and the victory at Adams Park moved them level on points with Dagenham and Redbridge in 22nd in League Two.

An own goal from Marcus Bean just after the hour mark and a late strike from Scott Boden also handed Wanderers their fourth straight defeat in all competitions.

The hosts came closest to breaking the deadlock in the opening half, with Max Kretzschmar's close-range drive brilliantly blocked by Janoi Donacien before Garry Thompson's volley was saved at the near post by Joe Day just before the break.

But County took full advantage with a fortuitous opener on 62 minutes when Tommy O'Sullivan's cross was deflected in off Bean.

With their tails up, Lenell John-Lewis fired just over the bar before fellow striker Zak Ansah forced Matt Ingram into a fine save with a vicious low drive.

And Boden wrapped up the win in the 89th minute, smashing his shot through Ingram's legs.
